The first steps of a painting

I actually spent like 4 hours setting up this still life (not counting the hours I spent on ebay finding the perfect geode rock thing). It's a lot harder than it looks. Lots of tweaking, nudging, and duct taping is involved.

Now, the drawing begins. I plan for this painting to eventually be 20 by 24. SO BIG!


Ideally, it will turn out something like this when I'm done. I think I need to pull the rock halves out a bit further to give it some depth.



PS. I will not be including the doorknob flower thing on the wood. I bought this super cool magnetic board from Bacon Square Farm on Etsy!
