The State of the Union: my art career

Well we're almost halfway through February (rly?) and I want to take a look back to see whatI've accomlished so far and what I am still looking to do this year. I've found that when you make the list at the beginning of the year, anything seems possible. However, as days go by, you realize what's reasonable. So far in 2009, these are the two major things I have accomplished:

Goal: DONATE 3 PAINTINGS TO CHARITY

Action: I have already donated 8 prints to the Potter Animal League in Middletown, RI. This is where we adopted our dog Zoey and every year I like to donate items for their auction.

What You Can do: Check out your local PBS or animal shelters or local causes. Many times they use auctions as a way to raise much needed funds.

Goal: VOLUNTEER MORE

Action: Today starts my first day volunteering at City Arts in Providence. It's a program that is free to the public and parents can sign up their kids for after school art programs. I'm really excited.

What You Can Do: Check out Volunteer Match to find out the best opportunity for you to give back. Whether you work during the day, have a flexible scheule, or can only help on the weekends. There's a volunteering opportunity that's right for you.

Smaller accomplishments on your 2009 to-do-list are a great way to keep yourself revved up to keep going. I have finsihed a still-life painting, got new items listed on etsy, went to the gym (ok i only went like 2 times so far...but I'm going tonight! I swear!)

How is your 2009 to-do list shaping up? Does it all seem possible? Are you really working towards those goals?

Way to go with the charity work! Good questions and good inspiration, Julie. I feel scattered so far this year. Committing to things that don't accomplish the goal. Gotta get back on track. Thanks for the reminder.

I hope more people feel the need to connect with others via volunteering and making the little contributions that can change the course of your life for the better. U Go Girl!
