New surface, New Year

OK 2009, I've had it with you. You're officially DONE in my book. Don't let the door hit ya in the you-know-where on the way out.

With a new year comes some experimentation with a new surface to paint on. I was talking with Michael Hauck at the Foundry Show who does amazing wood working. He suggested trying wood panels to paint on. Being the busy artist I am, I said "hey if someone wants to make me some wood panels to paint on, I'd love to give it a try!' Then 2 days a go I run into Utrecht to see if they had any 24 by 24 canvases and BAM! right in my face were these beautiful light wood panels all ready for some paint.

I bought some and tried them out. It is definitely a whole different experience painting on these. The wood soaks up the water immediately, but it allowed for some interesting experimentation. These will be at The Foundry Show this weekend in case you want to see them up close and personal!

I doubt you'll have any trouble selling these beauties. Nice job embracing new things. Good luck at the show this weekend. -Don

These are wonderful Jules!!!! And I am with you...screw 2009...I need a new surface for 2010 too (but I mean that more metaphorically being non-artist and all).

These are great, Julie. My dad would flip over the plane and train paintings, and they look great on the wood panels.

Wonderful! You can always put some matte medium over your initial drawing if you don't want the paint to soak up- that's what I do.
