you know you want to

I starting listing some paintings I have in my "these paintings are going to the Providence Rotary Street Painting Festival" box because i decided it's stupid to have paintings done but not listed. I will put my shop on vacation mode the day I am there... but I shouldn't hold back the paintings I have (and there are a lot of them!!)

Check out my Etsy Shop for the latest and greatest... get them while they're hot, because who knows...after the Providence Rotary festival where I plan to sell ALL MY PAINTINGS... the one you want may be GONE FOREVER!!!!!!!!

ooooooooooooooooooooooo

although you could probably ask nicely and I could make you one very similar...but it's more dramatic if I say it that way.

i like to torture myself

so in the midst of painting 11 buttons and finishing the painting of my grandmother, I also started this painting. I put another layer of colors on it, but I'm not 100% of the color scheme I want to use. They are 2 kids standing in a non descript field and I am going to treat the edges much like I Will Prevail For You (vintage train ledger papers on the edges). It's a large 20 by 20. Why do I do this to myself....the smaller paintings are so much faster!

Sew in Love, Sew Much to Say, Say it Ain't Sew

I just listed 3 of the 6 inch by 6 inch button paintings! Fresh off the easel...they were a huge hit at the Providence Open Market.
You can find them in my Etsy Shop.

Cotton Candy Sunrise

This item SOLD at the Providence Art festival to a wonderful customer! I didn't even have time to post pics or get anything ready for etsy.

I tried to challenge myself with a color scheme that is out of my normal earth tones/ jewel tones palette. And the one color I shy away from...is PINK. PINK PINK PINK! The one thing that inspired me was this photo from FixItNowSamuri who goes on amazing hikes and then takes equally amazing photos (you can view these here) . This photo has a beautiful subtle color scheme so I thought I'd give it a try.

I am happy with how it came out, but may try it a couple more times to get it more exact. The sky color is actually a complex layering of colors and when lit correctly, the yellow undertones make the subtle top lay of blue look really interesting. The hardest part was getting the shadow on the center tree to look close to believable, and the tint of the pink kept getting too red or too purple...it took a good 4 different tries to get it right!

The ground color on this is also quite interesting...in the photo it looks yellowish...but there are tones of pink in it...which is why I loved the initial photo and it's color scheme...all the colors played together.

Do something cool this Saturday.

Father's day is June 21! Since dads can be hard to buy for, here are some great ideas for unique, handmade gifts. AND, if you are in the RI area, you can purchase these items at the Providence Arts Festival this Saturday, June 13, from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM (downtown on Westminster between Eddy and Union). There will be fantastic art, great food, and fun activities for the kids. Bring the whole family!!

Along with many of my Arts In RI members, I'll be there in full effect!

Chubby Grandma...

I'm not calling my grandmother chubby...she's just the next painting in my Chubby series.

Session 2 on Grandma. I started this painting about a week before I found out that my grandmother got engaged!!! Her and Hugh have been together for what seems like eternity, but they never got married ...so I always use them as an example when the rest of my family harasses us about getting married. I call Tim my husband because we're common-law married...not "official" by family standards but official by state and government standards....plus it's easier to explain than calling him my "life partner" although that sounds way more interesting.

So congrats to my grandma who is one of the most wonderful women on earth!

Pilot Painting

I started 4 paintings today...2 custom home paintings, and 2 new Chubby series. The Chubby series is based on vintage photos. Some of the most interesting photos have come from a friend on Etsy... Bullbone.etsy.com

He has an incredible selection and some of the most interesting photos. Recently, I purchased these photos because I've been wanting to do a fighter pilot type of painting.

I started out by painting the whole canvas a pea-soup green. Not sure why, but I think it may make the sky look cool. Here is how the painting is starting out. I plan to add a whole sky-scape of clouds behind the stripe. I actually got 2 short painting sessions in today!

Art of the North East status

Yesterday I dropped off Obsolete Beast to the Art of the North East show. I should know on Wednesday between 4 and 6 if I got in! I drove three hours down to the Silvermine Arts Guild which is in a GORGEOUS area. I had never been down there but it was full of twisty turny roads and beautiful old houses.

If I didn't get in, I have to drive down AGAIN on thursday. And if I DID get in...next friday is the opening. This is a lot of driving, but if I get in...it's totally worth it!
